With the injury of Matt Polster, the inconsistency from Kevin Ellis, Rafael Ramos, combine that with the questionable goalkeeping from Richard Sanchez, the Chicago Fire backline has been questionable at best this season. The club needed someone new and fresh to help keep the ship afloat. Admiral Veljiko Paunovic was really adamant in getting a new defender this summer transfer window and now it seems like he got his wish.
On Thursday the club decided to get some duct tape for that hole on the side of the ship. They’ve signed Argentine defender Nicolas Del Grecco.

Wait who?
Del Grecco was acquired from Honduran club Deportivo Olympia. He was signed through to the 2019 season with options for 2020 and 2021.
The 24-year-old defender appeared in 12 league matches for Deportivo Olympia and prior to that, he was with Club Deportivo Libertad de Sunchales in Torneo Argentino A - or the third devision of Argentinian football. He has also played for the reserves of one of Argentina’s top clubs Boca Juniors.
Could he be the Argentine David Arshakyan?
We don’t know how the Fire scouted him - but if it was anything like how Big Dave was scouted, he does have some YouTube videos of him in action.
Despite his humble background in soccer, the Fire could of have found a diamond in the rough here. Del Grecco could be the commanding general for the backline - or he could be a massive flop. But at least the Fire is trying to fix up one of the many issues plaguing the team this season.
Del Grecco will be officially added to the roster upon receipt of his ITC and P1 visa.
