Chicago Fire FC may be about to fill one of its three designated player spots very soon.

French publication L’Equipe reports the Fire could be very close to signing Slovenian striker Robert Beric from Saint-Etienne.

So who is Beric? He’s 28, he has 24 caps and two goals for Slovenia, and he’s put up big numbers in the past. In 2014-15 he tallied 27 times for Rapid Vienna, putting him eleventh in the European Golden Shoe race that season. He signed with Saint-Etienne in 2015, and despite having several successful years, he’s only scored once so far in 2019-20. He’s a 75 rated player on FIFA 20.

L’Equipe reports Beric was one of the highest paid players at his French club, so that probably makes him a designated player for the Fire, but this is MLS so who knows. The report also notes Beric is very well liked in the Saint-Etienne locker room.

So what do you think? Is Beric a guy you’d like to see in Soldier Field this season? Let us know in the comments.
