The Chicago Fire appear to be close to landing their second designated player signing of the off-season.
Argentine reporter Agustin Sileo says a deal is imminent that would bring midfielder Gaston Gimenez to Chicago.

So who is Gimenez?
- He’s 28, and plays a defensive midfielder for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina’s top division. Prior to Velez, he played for several other clubs in Argentina.
- He’s an Argentina international, or at least he has been. Gimenez has exactly one cap for his national team, a November 2018 win over Mexico.
- Transfermarkt has Gimenez valued at $5.13 million. He’s a 75 on FIFA 20.
The Sileo report also says Gimenez will wait and make the move to the Fire in March after finishing the Superliga with Velez. Defensive midfield was a big concern for Fire fans after Dax McCarty left for Nashville, so if this deal comes together, Gimenez will clearly be stepping in with a big job to do.
