The Chicago Fire have signed 20-year-old Nigerian striker Chinonso Offor via transfer from Latvian first division team FK Rīgas Futbola Skola, the club announced today.
The deal runs through the 2023 season, with a club option for 2024.
“Offor is a young striker,” Fire sporting director Georg Heitz told reporters today. “He is a tall striker. Nevertheless, he has a certain speed. One thing that we will need to give him is time, because he comes from a small league. The Latvian league is a small league. But we consider him and our scouting department consider him a very interesting option.”
In his time in the Latvian first division, Offor scored 16 goals and added seven assists in 40 games across all competitions. He made one appearance in the UEFA Europa League, playing against FK Partizan from Serbia on Aug. 27.
Offor began his pro career in 2019 with BFC Daugavpils, where he scored 10 goals in 23 appearances (22 starts). Since joining FK Rigas Futbola Skola on July 19, he scored six times.
Offor will occupy an international slot on the Fire’s 2021 roster. He is the 13th player on the Club’s roster age 23 or younger.
