Goals from Nick Slonina and Elliot Collier sealed the win

Chicago Fire FC

The match slipped off the radar a bit with the announcements of Ignacio Aliseda’s signing and the WGN-TV deal, but the Chicago Fire ended the big news day with a 2-0 preseason win over Toronto FC.

Nick Slonina grabbed his first goal with the first team, and Elliot Collier continued his blazing hot preseason with yet another goal in the match this afternoon at the University of California-Irvine.

Slonina’s goal opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he buried a rebound after a corner kick. Collier made it 2-0 Fire when Djordje Mihailovic played him through in the 31st minute. Collier now has four goals on the preseason, putting him ahead of CJ Sapong for the team lead.

Other notes: Kenneth Kronholm wore the captain’s armband for the Fire today. Sapong didn’t play due to normal preseason squad rotation.

Chicago improves to three wins, two losses on the preseason. The Fire wrap up the 2020 preseason Saturday at 5 p.m. CT against the LA Galaxy in Carson, Calif. That match will be streamed live on ChicagoFireFC.com.
