It’s safe to say it won’t be an easy start to the NWSL season for the Chicago Red Stars. The 2020 campaign opens with a rematch of last year’s title game.
Chicago will visit North Carolina Courage on Saturday, April 18, to kick off the season. The Courage beat the Red Stars 4-0 to win the NWSL Championship last season, ending Chicago’s spectacular 2019 on a sour note. The kickoff time hasn’t been announced yet.
It doesn’t get much easier for the Red Stars in their home opener at SeatGeek Stadium the following week. The team hosts the Portland Thorns on Saturday, April 25, in a rematch of last year’s NWSL semi-final, which the Red Stars won 1-0 in front of more than 9,000 fans.
The late April home owner has traditionally been a doubleheader, where fans could see both the Red Stars and the Chicago Fire with one ticket. But, with the Fire moving out of Bridgeview to Soldier Field, fans might have to get creative to make that work. The Fire play at 2:30 downtown, and we don’t yet know the kickoff time for the Red Stars-Thorns game.
Single game tickets for the home opener go on sale next week, but fans can get them now as part of a flex pack or season ticket package.
The rest of the 2020 Chicago Red Stars schedule should be out soon.
