With help from former MLS MVP Mike Magee, the Chicago Fire officially dropped the 2020 primary jersey at the MLS FORWARD 25 event tonight. The club is calling it the “Homecoming Kit,” because of the return to Soldier Field this season.
For the first time in Fire history, the team will wear a navy kit for its home matches. The jersey has red trim, red adidas stripes, and thin, red pinstripes that run throughout the shirt. It also features the club’s controversial new badge.
Motorola is back for another year as the Fire’s jersey sponsor. Additionally, the shirt features a new MLS font for the name and number on the back.
The MLS 25 logo appears on both sleeves—for now. Some MLS clubs have already signed sleeve sponsorship deals for the upcoming season, and a Fire spokesperson tells Hot Time “Chicago Fire is currently in the market with the opportunity.”
The entire Homecoming Kit will include the navy jersey, navy shorts and red socks. Just like in past years, the 1998 MLS Cup Championship star will appear above the crest of the authentic version—the kits the players actually wear on the field—but it won’t be on the less expensive replica jerseys, according to the club. Right now, it appears only the replica jerseys are actually for sale.
As we’ve previously reported, this won’t be the only new Fire jersey this season. The team’s secondary jersey will be officially unveiled by the end of the month.
Fans can pre-order the navy primary jersey right now at ShopChicagoFire.com, and it should also be immediately available for use in EA Sports FIFA 20 across all platforms.
