Former Red Stars Assistant Coach Craig Harrington is leaving Chicago to take over as Head Coach of Utah Royals FC.
The news was first broken this morning by The Equalizer.
“It has been a pleasure working with Craig,” Chicago Red Stars Head Coach Rory Dames said in a statement. “He’s helped the team continue its consistent level of success over the past two years. Our Chicago family congratulates him and we wish him and his family all the best with his new opportunity.”
Harrington had a lot of success during his two seasons with the Red Stars, winning 25 games, reaching two NWSL semifinals, and the 2019 NWSL Championship Game.
“I enjoyed my time in Chicago and the run to the championship game but making the move to Utah Royals FC was an easy decision for one key reason: potential,” Harrington said in a quote released by Utah Royals FC. “The ambition of the club, combined with the hunger and talent of the players, is a powerful mix. I am passionate about success and I am ready to bring that mentality to the Royals, every day.”
The Red Stars are apparently acting fast to fill the vacancy.
“We will have exciting announcements early next week on our coaching staff,” Red Stars Owner Arnim Whisler III wrote on Twitter today.
