What’s the new NWSL TV deal mean for the Red Stars?

In a “landmark deal” for women’s soccer, the NWSL announced today that they have reached a three year TV/streaming rights deal with CBS Sports. For the 2020 season that means 87 games will be available on CBS, CBS Sports Network, CBS Sports All-Access and Twitch. For the Red Stars, that breaks down to 17 games on CBS All-Access and 5 games on Twitch.

We asked the Red Stars for clarification about what this deal means for the club’s local TV deal with NBC Sports Chicago, and it sounds like they’re still figuring out the details. Red Stars Communications and Marketing Coordinator Joe Azar emailed us this statement:

“Due to new rules and regulations part of the broader NWSL broadcast deal, the Red Stars are still investigating the best option for their local television distribution in Chicago and will release that information when available.”
