Jersey week at SB Nation continues, and today at Hot Time in Old Town, we’re asking you to help us determine the worst Chicago Fire jersey of all time.
Looking back, we’re actually pretty lucky that the Fire haven’t had that many terrible shirts. For most of us, the ones we tend to hate the most are home shirts that aren’t red and white. With that in mind, here are some of the contenders:
The current home shirt

I’m on record as saying I really like this jersey. Objectively, I think it’s pretty solid. But, when Mike Magee pulled this shirt out of his pants—Zoolander-style—at the MLS jersey debut event, a lot of fans were furious. Blue?!? For a Fire home jersey?!? I get the frustration, but I actually do like the blue. The crest? I’m still not sold, but it’s grown on me quite a bit.

Sure, it doesn’t look that bad right there, probably because the Fire had just signed Cuauhtemoc Blanco. But, I own this shirt. It’s still in my closet, and every time I pull it out, I can’t help but marvel at how strange it looks. A lot of teams had similar shirts with this adidas template. Sometimes, strange old jerseys become cool again. I don’t see that happening with this one.
The Worst: The Spiderman Quaker Jersey

Over MLS’ 25 years, there have been far uglier shirts than this one. Blue and red are great colors, so it’s pretty hard to go wrong here. But, this jersey never felt right for the Fire. When these came out in 2014, fans were already getting enormously frustrated with the club, and these didn’t help.
On Monday, we looked at some of the best jerseys in Chicago soccer history, and in that piece, we included the Red Stars, Sting and Power. I didn’t include the Red Stars in this, because honestly, I’ve never seen a truly bad Red Stars jersey. The club debuts its new away shirt tomorrow night, and I’m excited to see what they can pull off.
So, is the Spiderman shirt the worst Fire jersey of all time? Or, is there another one we missed? Let us know in the comments!
