The Chicago Red Stars take on OL Reign tonight (9 p.m. CT, CBS All Access) in the last quarterfinal match of the NWSL Challenge Cup.
It’s crazy to think tonight could be the final Red Stars match of 2020. Right now, there’s no guarantee the NWSL will have teams return to local markets for a regular season, so a loss means the tournament—and possibly the season—are over.
A win will see the Red Stars take on the winner of the Washington Spirit-Sky Blue on Wednesday, when the tournament shifts to Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
A reminder: the NWSL isn’t using extra time in the tournament, meaning if the two teams are tied after 90 minutes, the match goes straight to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.
