Chicago Fire midfielder Luka Stojanović is heading back to Chicago today to meet with doctors, who will decide how to treat the MCL injury he suffered Sunday night against the San Jose Earthquakes.
“He’s unfortunately going to be out for quite a while, probably,” Fire head coach Raphael Wicky said.
Stojanović landed awkwardly after jumping for a 50-50 ball late in the first half against San Jose. He tried to keep playing, but was ultimately subbed off for Fabian Herbers just before halftime.
Stojanović joined the Fire in March from Serbian side FK Čukarički. He was expected to be a big part of the team’s offensive attack.
The Fire take on the Vancouver Whitecaps Thursday morning (8 a.m. CT, ESPN) on the final day of group stage play at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando. A win or a draw will see the the Fire advance to the Round of 16.
