With goals from Fabian Herbers and Mauricio Pineda, the Chicago Fire led Minnesota United 2-0 at halftime today, before the friendly match in Orlando was called off because of a storm.
Pineda’s goal was a screamer from 30 yards out, we’re told.
Both teams saw their opening round matches at the MLS is Back Tournament delayed, so the clubs opted to play one another in a closed door friendly. The Fire were supposed to play Nashville SC tonight, but the match was postponed after at least five Nashville players tested positive for the coronavirus.
Here’s a look at today’s friendly. You’ll notice the Fire’s blue jerseys have two new sleeve sponsors—Motorola on one side, and CIBC on the other. MLS is allowing teams to add extra advertising on their jerseys for the tournament.
