The Chicago Fire could be again turning to South America for their latest signing.
The Athletic’s Guillermo Rivera reports the Fire are looking at Colombian central defender Carlos Terán. He’s 19, and plays for Envigado in Colombia’s first division.
So, what do we know about this guy?
- He plays primarily as a center back for Envigado, but has also appeared as a right back.
- He’s big: 6’ 2”, 187 lbs—making him fairly similar in size to Boris Sekulić
- Terán has caps for the Colombian U-20 and U-23 national teams
- FIFA 20 rates him as a 57, but he has a potential of 76. Not bad.

Here’s video of Terán taking a throw-in. Sure, it’s a great throw-in, but the special effects are top notch.

And, Terán is included in this Colombian news report when he was named to the national team:
There’s not much more out there about Terán. A Fire spokesman declined to comment on Terán, which is standard procedure with any rumored signing. If he signs, Terán would be the Fire’s fourth South American signing of 2020, along with Miguel Navarro, Gastón Giménez, and Ignacio Aliseda.
So what do you think, Fire fans? Is it worth taking a chance on Terán? Let us know in the comments.
