Chicago Fire FC leads the way in MLS Team of the Week voting

Four players, plus head coach Raphael Wicky, earned the weekly honors

What a difference a few days makes.

After a 4-1 loss away to Orlando City last weekend, the Chicago Fire rebounded with the team’s best performance of the season—a dominant, 4-0 win over the Houston Dynamo at Soldier Field on Wednesday.

The Fire were rewarded with four players named to the latest edition of the Major League Soccer team of the week—Álvaro Medrán, Jonathan Bornstein, and Francisco Calvo were all named as starters, and Fabian Herbers also got the nod on the bench. Raphael Wicky was named as head coach of the Team of the Week, as well. The Fire’s five members were the most of any team this week.

Because of the condensed schedule, the MLS “weeks” are working a little differently this fall. All 26 teams played Wednesday night, so that counts as an entire week. This weekend’s games will count toward the next weekly vote.

The team of the week is voted on by the MLSSoccer.com editorial staff.
