With time winding down on the NWSL regular season, the Chicago Red Stars are hanging on to the sixth and final playoff position. Of the team’s four remaining games, tonight’s match with OL Reign looks to be the toughest.
OL Reign sits in second place with 35 points, three points back of the league-leading Portland Thorns. Spots three through eight are tight—with just four points between third placed North Carolina Courage (32) and eighth placed Orlando Pride (28).
It is tight. Every point matters, and the Red Stars are in good shape. A point tonight on the road would be massive, with home games against Orlando and Kansas City upcoming.
This is the third time these teams have faced this season—the Red Stars fell to the Reign 2-0 in Tacoma back in June, then won the July 18 rematch 3-1 in Bridgeview.
