Chicago Fire winger Przemyslaw Frankowski has officially received his U.S. green card. Hot Time broke the news that it was happening back in December, and today the club made the official announcement.
A source tells Hot Time that two more Fire players are expected to receive their green cards once they arrive in the U.S. for preseason, bringing the total number of international players on the 2021 roster down to nine. At the moment, the club only has eight available slots for international players. Sporting Director Georg Heitz has said several more players are in the final stages of receiving a green card, and at least one of those—if not all of them—should be complete by the roster compliance date. Worst case, if that doesn’t happen, the Fire could send someone on loan, or buy an international slot from another team.
Here are the 11 players that currently take up an international slot: Ignacio Aliseda, Robert Berić, Jhon Espinoza, Gastón Giménez, Stanislav Ivanov, Álvaro Medrán, Miguel Navarro, Chinonso Offor, Boris Sekulić, Luka Stojanović and Carlos Terán.
In total, Chicago currently has 29 players under contract for the 2021 season:
Goalkeeper (4): Chris Brady, Kenneth Kronholm, Bobby Shuttleworth, Gabriel Slonina
Defender (11): Jonathan Bornstein, Francisco Calvo, Jhon Espinoza, Johan Kappelhof, Miguel Navarro, Wyatt Omsberg, Mauricio Pineda, Andre Reynolds II, Boris Sekulić, Nicholas Slonina, Carlos Terán
Midfielder (12): Ignacio Aliseda, Javier Casas Jr., Elliot Collier, Przemysław Frankowski, Gastón Giménez, Brian Gutiérrez, Fabian Herbers, Stanislav Ivanov, Álvaro Medrán, Alex Monis, Allan Rodríguez, Luka Stojanović
Forward (2): Robert Berić, Chinonso Offor
