The Red Stars will have even better representation at the upcoming SheBelieves Cup than the strong contingent fans were already excited about. On Monday, U.S. Soccer announced that Red Stars defender Casey Krueger will be part of the USWNT squad to face Argentina, Brazil and Canada later this month in Orlando.
Krueger (nee. Short) replaces Alana Cook after her club, Paris Saint-Germain, exercised their right under current French COVID-19 restrictions to forbid her from traveling. Krueger joins teammates Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz and Alyssa Naeher in the 23-player squad, as well as Mallory Pugh who will be training with the team.
Krueger played 9 games in 2020 for the Red Stars, including every game of the NWSL Challenge Cup.
She currently has 32 caps for the USWNT, most recently as a substitute in the final game of last year’s SheBelieves Cup against Japan.
She and her fellow Red Stars kick off this year’s edition of the tournament next Thursday, February 18th, against Canada at 6:00 PM CT on FS1.
