This preseason has not been kind to the Chicago Fire from an injury standpoint.
Fabian Herbers and Elliot Collier are both out for the next few weeks with injuries they picked up during the 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union, and, crucially, Stanislav Ivanov will be out until summer after a knee injury he suffered in training.
“Obviously we’re not happy about that,” Fire head coach Raphael Wicky said. “You never wish an injury to a player. Unfortunately, it’s part of the game, and it happens, and then as a coaching staff, you have to try to deal with it the best you can. That’s what we’re doing. We know that Stani is going to take awhile, but we hope that the other players are back after a few weeks. It’s difficult to give an exact time.”
Despite the injuries, the Fire have done well this preseason, defeating New York City FC and Philadelphia in the first two matches. Saturday’s match will again be streamed live at ChicagoFireFC.com for fans who live within 75 miles of Soldier Field. Like the NYCFC match, this one will be played at the Omni Orlando Resort, and Tyler Terens will be back at his picnic table to call the match live.
