Chicago Red Stars vs. Gotham FC: NWSL Gameday Guide and How to Watch

Seeking their first win of the new year, the Red Stars will welcome fans to SeatGeek Stadium for the first time since 2019

The Chicago Red Stars will play its second match of the NWSL regular season tonight, taking on NWSL Challenge Cup runners-up Gotham FC at home. This will be the first match at SeatGeek Stadium to allow supporters in any capacity since the 1-0 playoff win over Portland in 2019. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM.

The Red Stars opened the regular season in the worst way possible, a 5-0 defeat in Portland against the Thorns. Between that result and the performance at the NWSL Challenge Cup, the Red Stars are winless in their first five matches of 2021, only scoring three goals in that time.

READ: Julie Ertz injury update

The Red Stars have a mostly fit squad, though the one casualty picked up in Portland was that to captain Julie Ertz, who sprained her right knee MCL in the first half of last week's game. Ertz was ruled out for this game, and may not return until after the Olympics.

Gotham FC should prove a strong opponent; the team formerly known as Sky Blue FC, which rebranded this offseason, only fell on penalty kicks in the final of the NWSL Challenge Cup at the hands of the Portland Thorns, and won its opening regular season game against the Houston Dash 1-0. Gotham has a strong roster, with names such as Carli Lloyd, Midge Purce, McCall Zerboni, and Allie Long available for selection.

Tickets for the match are publicly available; the match will also be streamed on Paramount+.
