The Chicago Fire are winless through the team’s last nine matches, dating back to the end of last season. But, if Fire head coach Raphael Wicky is worried about his team’s poor results thus far in 2021, he didn’t show it in his weekly news conference.
“We need to turn this thing around and we need to start winning games and making points, but I’m very confident with this team and with players coming back slowly, that we will turn this around and we will make points,” Wicky said. “I’m absolutely sure about that. It doesn’t make sense to look back and see how many games (we didn’t win). At least I’m not doing that, and that’s the wording now I have to the team.”
Injuries
Wicky said Fabian Herbers continues to get better, and is slowly integrating with the team. Miguel Navarro is also back, and is day-to-day. Carlos Teran and Ignacio Aliseda still aren’t training with the team, and Kenneth Kronholm and Stanislav Ivanov are still a long way off from returning.

Forward Madison Loans
The Fire’s USL League One affiliate Forward Madison is set to open its 2021 campaign this Saturday against FC Tucson. Wicky said the Fire are in talks to send at least one player on loan soon, but nothing’s finalized yet.
“We are talking (about) what is best for the player, what makes sense for the individual player,” Wicky said. “So we are in talks (about) that. We will update you when we have news there.”
Another Fresh New ‘Mingo Kit
Speaking of the ‘Mingos, Forward Madison is set to release its 2021 home shirt Wednesday night at an event at Breese Stevens Field in Madison. With the club’s record of putting out spectacular jerseys, it’s sure to be another hit. UPDATE: It’s good.
