The Chicago Red Stars will host the third-placed Washington Spirit for the sixth match of the NWSL regular season tonight in Bridgeview, Illinois. The match will kickoff at 7:00 PM CT.
The Red Stars are coming off of a 1-0 win over the defending NWSL champions, the North Carolina Courage. Rachel Hill’s first-half goal was the only difference between the two teams in what was Chicago’s second win of the season following a difficult first few weeks of 2021.
The visiting Washington Spirit are coming off a three-game unbeaten streak, which involved wins over the Houston Dash and OL Reign, as well as a draw with Orlando. 26-year-old forward Ashley Hatch leads their scoring; she has 3 goals in the regular season, including the Spirit’s lone goal against Orlando in the last match before the international break. Washington will also be able to call upon players such as Kelley O’Hara, Emily Sonnett, and 19-year-old Trinity Rodman.
The Red Stars will be without Julie Ertz, who, despite participating in light training with the US Women’s National Team during the international break, is returning from an MCL injury. Alyssa Naeher and Tierna Davidson will both also be returning from international duty and will be available for selection. Apart from Ertz, the Red Stars have no further availability limitations.
Tickets for the match at SeatGeek Stadium are publicly available. The match will be also aired on Paramount+.
