The Chicago Red Stars will welcome the OL Reign to SeatGeek Stadium for the two teams’ third meeting of 2021. The Red Stars are coming off of two successive wins (will all three goals coming from own goals) while their opponents linger lower in the table and have only won one of their last three. The match will kickoff at 5:00 PM CT.
Chicago will still be without all of its USWNT players- Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, Casey Krueger, and Alyssa Naeher- all of whom are in Tokyo, Japan preparing for the Olympics. Despite the absences, the Red Stars were able to win their previous match against Houston thanks to a pair of own goals from Shea Groom and Katie Naughton.
In the previous regular season meeting with the Reign earlier in the year, the Red Stars were soundly beaten, 2-0, with goals from Shirley Cruz and Bethany Balcer. They also played to an entertaining 3-2 win for the Reign in April during the NWSL Challenge Cup, with the Red Stars goals coming from Mallory Pugh and Morgan Gautrat.
The Reign sit near the bottom of the table in 9th place, but still have one of the stronger rosters in the league with options such as Eugenie Le Sommer, Dzenifer Marozsan, and Sarah Bouhaddi in their squad. However, they will be without Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, and Quinn who will be at the Olympic Games.
The match will be aired on Paramount+. Tickets for SeatGeek Stadium are available.
