The Chicago Red Stars will visit the Washington Spirit in the ninth match of the NWSL regular season in Leesburg, Virginia. The match will kickoff at 6:30 PM CT.

The Red Stars, winless in their last three matches, have won only two matches out of twelve in 2021. Ahead of this match against the Spirit, the Red Stars will know they will be without several key players, namely Alyssa Naeher, Julie Ertz, Tierna Davidson, as well as Bianca St Georges, through a combination of international duty and injury. Despite being a part of the 22-played Olympic team as an alternate, Casey Krueger will be available for this match.

Washington will also be without some players; Kelley O’Hara and Emily Sonnett are with the USWNT, while Karina Rodriguez was a part of the Mexican national team which lost 4-0 against the United States in a friendly last night. They will, however, still be able to call upon players such as Andi Sullivan, Trinity Rodman, and Aubrey Bledsoe. The Spirit are unbeaten in their last five, and are only 3 points off the top of the table (with a game in hand).

Both teams met in Bridgeview in mid-June, in a 1-1 draw which saw both goals scored in the last five minutes. Trinity Rodman’s 85th-minute go-ahead goal was cancelled out by Morgan Gautrat’s stoppage-time penalty for the Red Stars.

The match will be aired on Twitch.
