The Chicago Red Stars will visit New Jersey to face Gotham FC in week 12 of the NWSL season. The Red Stars are have extended their winning streak to three and will be looking for a fourth at Red Bull Arena. The match will kickoff at 4:00 PM CT.
Chicago will be without four players due to the ongoing Olympics: Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, Casey Krueger, and Alyssa Naeher. All four appeared for the USWNT in a 6-1 group stage win over New Zealand yesterday. Despite being without those four key players, the Red Stars have been able to rack up nine out of nine points, albeit with the help of own goals (5 of the last 6 goals).
Earlier in the season, both teams met at Bridgeview in what was the Red Stars’ home opener in front of fans. However, that game played to a dull 0-0 draw.
Due to the Olympics, Gotham will be without Kailen Sheridan, Carli Lloyd, and Evelyn Viens. Their roster still contains multiple players with international experience such as Midge Purce, McCall Zerboni, and Alex Long. Gotham is 4th in the table but with two games in hand, they will jump above Chicago with a win.
The match will be aired on Paramount+.
