Chicago Red Stars vs Washington Spirit: Gameday Guide and How to Watch

The Red Stars are looking to return to their strong form.

Shaina Benhiyoun

The Chicago Red Stars will welcome the third-placed Washington Spirit to Bridgeview on Sunday. The Red Stars’ three-game winning streak came to an end last week at Gotham, but they still sit just above to playoff line at the halfway point of the regular season. The match will kickoff at 5:00 PM CT.

Chicago will still be missing Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, Casey Krueger, and Alyssa Naeher due to being a part of the USWNT’s Olympic team in Tokyo. Alyssa Naeher was the player of the match for the US in the quarterfinal against the Netherlands, saving three penalties. The Olympic players are expected to return to NWSL action in about two weeks.

The Red Stars are 1-0-1 against the Spirit this season, tying 1-1 at home in June thanks to a stoppage-time Morgan Brian penalty, and winning 1-0 on the road in July with the lone goal an own goal.

Kelley O’Hara, Emily Sonnett, Saori Takarada, and Julia Roddar will be unavailable for Washington due to international duty, representing their countries at the Olympics (U.S.A., U.S.A., Japan, and Sweden respectively).

The match will be aired on Paramount+.
