The Chicago Red Stars face the second-placed North Carolina Courage in Cary, NC on Sunday. The Red Stars have had a mixed bag of results lately, most recently losing 2-0 at home to the Orlando Pride. The Courage are just one point above the Red Stars in the table. The match will kickoff at 5:00 PM CT.
Chicago will be missing several key contributors. Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, and Casey Krueger are still unavailable as part of the Olympics break. Alyssa Naeher, who was also in Tokyo, is out with injury. Morgan Gautrat also picked up an injury. Meanwhile, Danielle Colaprico, Rachel Hill, Katie Johnson, Bianca St. Georges, Arin Wright, and Vanessa DiBernardo are all questionable. With all these absences, the Red Stars will have to call upon squad depth as they did during the Olympic tournament.
North Carolina, who broke a four-game winless streak last week with a 1-0 win at Gotham FC, will be missing Lynn Williams, Sam Mewis, and Debinha. The Courage have proven themselves to be a sound team defensively this season; they have the second most clean-sheets in the league this season (7).
Chicago and North Carolina last met in June, with Rachel Hill scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Bridgeview.
The match will be aired on Paramount+.
