Chicago Fire 2, New York Red Bulls 1: Man of the Match

New, 2 comments
MLS: New York Red Bulls at Chicago Fire Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

This has to be one of the most difficult Man of the Match decisions I’ve had to make since I was put in charge of the process in 2018. There are two candidates for the Chicago Fire that stand out from the rest of the team in their 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. The first, of course, is Luka Stojanovic, scorer of the Fire’s two goals within the first 10 minutes of the game. The second is Mauricio Pineda. The Fire’s sweeper has done everything on defense and did it well. From stopping shots to making tackles and intercepting passes, Pineda has established himself as the best center back on the roster. So I’m going to do something unprecedented. We’re going to give them BOTH the award tonight. Luka and Pineda both deserve it, so we’re awarding the first-ever Hot Time Co-Men of the Match.

(Now let us know how you saw it. Vote for your choice for MOTM/WOTM in the poll below. The poll will be open for two days, after which we’ll publicize the results. (Note: if you’re viewing this post from AMP or Apple News, you won’t see the poll below. Feel free to tell us your pick in the comments.)
