MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends and Fines LA Galaxy Midfielder David Beckham; Fines Arena and Marsch NEW YORK (July 5, 2012) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his confrontational and provocative behavior during and immediately following the Galaxy’s 4-3 loss at San Jose on June 30. The Committee considered his conduct unacceptable and detrimental to the League’s public image. Beckham will serve his suspension this Sunday when the Galaxy travel to face the Chicago Fire at 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). The Committee also levied undisclosed fines for public criticism of the officials to LA Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena and Montreal Impact Coach Jesse Marsch. "The MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson an undisclosed amount for making an inappropriate gesture as he was leaving the field after the April 28 game against the Chicago Fire."

Fire sign Brazilian midfielder Alex to help shore up attack

Michael Ballack and his representatives are in deep negotiations with Major League Soccer, Goal.com has learned. Sources from both sides have confirmed that MLS Executive VP Todd Durbin initiated talks that would bring the former Germany captain and current Bayer Leverkusen midfielder to North America. A source close to the player revealed that Durbin listed five teams interested in bringing Ballack onboard, including New York, Montreal, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle.
